What to do???
As you all know, Cason is 6 months old, loving cereal and starting baby food. Hates peas and loves carrots. We tried peas first because we were told if you do the fruits or sweet vegetables first they won't eat the other vegetables. Well, he hated them. At first I thought it was just because it was something new so we kept trying them. After the third day of them he actually puked on Chris. Talk about feeling guilty. We tried carrots next and he's done well with them so far. I think in the next few days we will attempt green beans, and hopefully we will have more luck with that green vegetable than we did with the first one. Cason's willingness to eat is not my problem, as you can tell by his many many rolls. LOL My problem is that I can't decide when to start weening him from breast milk to formula. Do I even want to? Or, do I want to just nurse him until he can have cow's milk at 12 months? I've thought about this a lot lately because from the beginning my 'goal' was to nurse him until 6 months. I, of course, would ultimately love to go until he's a year but I had come to grips with the fact that I may only nurse him until the 6 month mark...so I thought. The, at one time so far away, 6 month mark has come and gone...rather quickly I must say and we are still going strong. I have always said that nursing him wasn't the huge mental attachment that a lot of women talk about. I didn't think it was anyway, until I started thinking about weening him off. This has been a much more difficult decision that I ever dreamed it would be. I mean, nursing him is such a hassle because I work 12 hour shifts so I have to pump 3 times a work and as soon as I get home around 11:30pm. And, now I'm having to pump every morning because he is eating cereal. So, 3 days a week I pump 5 times/day!!! It's exhausting and inconvenient but routine at this point. So, why not stop, right? Make life a little easier. I DON'T KNOW!!! Just when I think, duh, the answer is right in front of you I will have the little person on my shoulder saying, "but it's better for Cason if you continue to nurse him." and "you are lucky to have enough milk for him and no difficulty nursing or pumping, and co-workers and a manager that are supportive and understanding, why mess with a good thing?" I feel guilty for even wanting to stop because I feel like I'm doing what's best for me, not Cason. I spoke with the PA and the pediatrician about it at Cason's 6 month check-up and they were both okay with it and in fact, gave us about 10 cans of formula. I was really hoping that by writing this post I would have more insight on what I should do, but unfortunately I'm still just as confused. I will keep you all posted on what we decide. In the meantime, prayers are welcomed.
